2004 lincoln ls review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. In styling, style and performance, the ls is fashioned in the image of a european sports sedan. The ls is aimed squarely at the import competition, and in a broad sense it covers the mark. One indication of that is that it uses rear-wheel drive, the first mark of a sports sedan, like those from mercedes and bmw. last year, the lincoln ls benefited from major revisions, involving more than 500 new or redesigned parts. As a result, the ls feels more refined and more comfortable. Its v8 and v6 engines are more powerful and more sophisticated, benefiting from the addition of variable valve timing. The interior was improved substantially and now features an attractive platinum-colored center panel that has a look and feel of quality. Comfort and convenience were enhanced with power-adjustable pedals, increased center console space and an electronic parking brake. the biggest benefit was in the area of suspension tuning and a reinforced chassis, which improved handling and ride quality. The ls feels firmer, sportier, more european than before. the 2004 lincoln ls is further improved. The five-speed automatic transmission has been upgraded for smoother shifting and engagement. The grille, front fascia, exterior mirrors, rear deck lid, tail lamps, license plate trim and wheels were all redesigned, resulting in a cleaner overall look. The difference is most obvious from the rear, where smooth lamps replaced rippled taillight lenses. It looks clean, aggressive, classy. interiorthe lincoln ls interior is understated, in the european fashion. The feeling is cozy, almost cockpit-style, and there are no gaudy trim pieces. The leather seats, nonetheless, feel cushy in the lincoln tradition. They're comfortable, but not as supportive as the seats found in a mercedes-benz or bmw. The driver and front passenger seats offer power adjustments with three-way memory for the driver on most models. The platinum-colored center panel is a high-quality piece. Stereo and climate controls are clustered in a large center stack that's easily accessible for either driver or passenger. The climate system is easy to operate. The seats feature seat heaters for those cold winter mornings and fans for hot, sultry summer afternoons. The headlamp switch, for example, can be turned to the right to turn on parking lights or headlights, or it can be turned to the left to the auto setting, which automatically turns the lights on or off, depending on available light. The ls features a power electronic parking brake, similar to that of the bmw 7 series. Both front power windows feature auto-up/down. Two power points are provided along with a great pair of rubber-lined cup holders. The sliding center armrest moves back and forth, adjusting for the position of the driver's seat. The driver can easily program functions; for example, the auto-locking feature can be turned off. the navigation system worked well, better than many others, and we found it easier to use than the mercedes system. Sirius satellite radio is now available for the ls. The rear seats are firm and dished, yet raised slightly for a better forward view. Rear-seat headroom is among the best in class. Legroom is adequate for most adults, as long as the front seats aren't pushed too far back, but hip room is a little lacking. cargo space can be expanded by a feature rare in the luxury class: a 60/40 split folding seat, which is very convenient for carrying long items. The suspension is tuned more like a mercedes than a lincoln. In many situations, it feels as good as a european sedan. this sedan performs well when driven aggressively. Control of noise, vibration and harshness has improved steadily since the ls was introduced, creating a smooth, quiet environment inside. the v8 engine works great and we prefer it. The increased power improved this lincoln's credentials as a sports sedan. With 280 horsepower and 286 pounds-feet of torque on tap, the ls v8 will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in the low 6-second range. A decade ago that was hot-rod performance and it's still very quick. Its relatively small displacement compared to other v8s in the class pays dividends. Seller's comments and description: 1964 ford galaxie 500 full custom,,,in the last 5 years, there has been less than 300 miles put on the car, however it is started and run on a regular basis. It is stored inside. We recently drove it 200 miles to and it ran flawlessly with 20 mpg. The build was started about 2005 with a rust free car, there is no rust now and there never was any rust. The bottom of the car is rust free, as are the panels throughout the car all the panels are hand formed, included trunk, doors, hood, quarter panels, etc. The custom work is incredible. The dash is painted and pinstriped by dr. Ru the headlights are 1952-1954 ford the grill is custom made stainless steel rod the front lip of the hood is hand made and extended 4 inches the side spears are extended into the quarter panels the rear tail lights are 1952 ford housings with 2004 thunderbird lenses the interior is 1969 ford thunderbird. Note the wrap-a-round rear seat. The roof has ten coats of pearl metal flake with clear coat. The car has all new front suspension. Over $1200 spent on parts alone the alternator is brand new. The ac compressor is about a year old. The rear suspension is on 2" lowering blocks with air shocks. The lake pipes are not functional. They are not hooked up. The dual exhaust exits through the rear and sounds excellent. Sounds very mellow like hot rod should … not too loud . 390 v8 motor with a brand new edelbrock carb, new hei distributor and wires, new radiator, tune up, gaskets, etc. Needs nothing but a new driver. The car has the following: power steering power disc brakes automatic transmission with cooler power locks (poppers for the doors and the trunk on a key fob) ford air conditioning the blows cold with new parts all the lights work and the horn works. All the chrome is excellent all the windows are excellent the paint is excellent real astro supreme wheels and nice white wall tires. 2001 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Looks are only the beginning. introductionthere's nothing on the road quite like chrysler's new pt cruiser, and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character. yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and a reasonable price. Chrysler turned the automotive industry on its ear when it launched the dodge viper and plymouth prowler. Those cars showcased chrysler's design trends. Viper and prowler are great cars for serious enthusiasts who don't mind making a few sacrifices in terms of comfort and convenience. But, in a way, the pt cruiser is even more exciting because it's a real car suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design. the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the base car. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard. the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges. the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet. all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position. chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations. the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots. with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. It weighs 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, meaning each of its 150 horsepower pulls roughly 21 pounds of iron. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances. the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the 2. 4's power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads. the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride. they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds. a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. There is little wind noise, almost no tire or road noise, and just an audible whine from the drivetrain. It has better noise, vibration and harshness control than chrysler products of the mid- to late 1990s have conditioned us to expect. front disc and rear drum brakes are standard. Antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and electronic stability control (esc) with traction control also come standard, as does a tire-pressure monitor. walkaroundunchanged in appearance since its 2006 redesign, the front fascia of the hyundai sonata remains refreshingly clean and spare, with sharply angled headlight housings and a quiet, clean-cut grille topped with a sliver of chrome. Wide and deep openings beneath the front bumper provide a home for tightly focused fog lamps and visually pull the front end closer to the ground, while directing cooling air into the radiator. The striking, concave hood reduces the car's perceived mass without cramping the engine compartment. the side treatment avoids the all too common wedge look with an almost horizontal beltline riding above softly shouldered fenders and door panels. The flat-flanged rims on the up-level 17-inch wheels suggest a high-end european import more than an affordable asian nameplate. the taillight outlines repeat the headlight shapes and bookend a broad, trapezoidal license plate inset. Again, there's a hint of other cars' architecture, most notably current camry and accord models. Sporty, california hot rod-idiom dual exhausts mark the v6-equipped versions. the hyundai sonata hasn't yet found its signature design cues, but its designers are looking in the right places. interiorhyundai upgraded the standard cloth upholstery in the gls and se for 2008, but otherwise, sonata's interior remains unchanged. the overall look is clearly competitive with most in the class and better than some. Some rough edges on a few plastic molds and a less-than-lustrous finish on some dash panels are the only shortcomings we noticed. a polished, hard-surfaced applique underlined with a thin slice of chrome divides the upper and lower halves of the dash. The upper is a glare-absorbing dark color, the lower a space-enhancing light tone. The passenger airbag enclosure is seamless, a trend in high-end midsize sedans. as with many modern cars, the stereo head is fully integrated into the dash, making difficult any aftermarket customizing of the sound system but adding an upscale touch. Air conditioner controls are mounted beneath the stereo, within the accent trim centered in the lower portion of the center stack. Stereo and air conditioner controls are substantial, finger-friendly, intuitive knobs and buttons, with status and selections clearly displayed in their respective lcds. three round dials in the hooded instrument cluster communicate the bare necessities of operational data to the driver. The largest is the speedometer, nestled inside a polished circle. To its left is the tachometer, to its right conjoined water temperature and fuel gauges. In the lower dash to the left of the steering column is a bank of five switch plugs, only two of which are employed in the u. Version; one is an on/off for the esc, the other the dash-light rheostat. Beyond that is a flip-down storage bin. The ignition key slides into a slot placed where it should be, in the dash to the right of the steering column instead of on the steering column itself, easier and more elegant when starting or shutting off the car. all models get a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Redundant controls for the audio (optional on gls, standard on se and limited) are appended to the lower left-side of the hub. On the other side of the hub are the standard cruise controls, with a helpful cancel function. Hyundai says the audio controls will be improved by the end of the 2008 model year. outward visibility is good, although the wide c-pillars constrict quick, over-the-shoulder traffic checks for lane changing. Rear side windows roll all the way down, thanks to small, fixed, rear quarter windows that move the windows' rear tracks forward in the door, ahead of the wheel well. There's a roof-mounted, hinged assist handle inside every door. seats are comfortable, with adequate bolstering for the style of driving to which the sonata aspires. The limited model's leather adds a touch of class without pretending to be luxurious. The height adjustment on the driver's seat, both manual and power, pivots on the seat's front mounts, which effectively moves the seat forward as it rises. This compels taller drivers to choose between rearward seat travel and forward sightline, not always a happy compromise. On the upside, this adds inches to rear-seat legroom behind the driver, one of the multitude of measures in which the sonata generally bests its competition. Sonata comes in second to the new honda accord in front and rear headroom, and to the toyota camry in rear-seat headroom, and by a mere one- to three-tenths of an inch. And of the second-tier competitors, the kia optima alone betters the new sonata and then only by three-tenths of an inch in front seat hip room. In short, the sonata is among the roomier cars in its class. rear seats are accommodating, with the bottom cushion in the center position only minimally higher than and nearly as well padded as the outboard positions. Both rear outboard seating positions have adjustable head restraints, as do the front seats.
